Got questions? No problem!

What type of writers do you work with?

I work mostly with novelists, short fiction and non-fiction writers, but any kind of writing is welcome here. I write historical and gothic fiction; story is my thing. I’ve worked with hundreds of academic writers too, on everything from essays to PhD theses.

What's the difference between coaching and manuscript assessment?

Creativity coaching is focused on you and your writing goals, not the nitty gritty of your work. I don't need to see your work to support you as a coach. Manuscript assessment involves constructive feedback on your writing. The two can be complimentary; I’ve had brilliant results from a mixture of both.

How and when do I send my work to you?

Once you've booked you'll be sent an email with a link to book your 60 minute meeting, and a link to upload your work. You must submit your work at least 14 days before your meeting date. I accept Word and Pages documents. I use Word tools such as track changes and comments to annotate your manuscript.

What happens if I miss my deadline or can't make a meeting?

If you submit after the 14 day deadline then I may have to reschedule our meeting to allow enough time for me to give your manuscript the attention it deserves. If this happens I'll ask you to pick a new time that works for you. You can reschedule your meeting yourself with up to 24 hours notice.

If you book a call but fail to submit your manuscript then the session will be forfeit with no refund.

Will you read my whole manuscript?

No, not unless you are an existing client. You'll be surprised how much we can cover by looking at a few thousand words! If you're not sure what to submit then I suggest starting with the beginning, or with a section you're struggling with. You can include a brief synopsis too.

If you decide a full review is what you need, I can help you find the right person for the job.

What results can you guarantee from working together?

None.

I’ve seen my clients make huge progress on their projects, publish books, win prizes and transform their writing lives, but their successes belong to them.

I can guarantee that I will support you 100% in the time we work together and that I’ll bring all the knowledge and expertise I’ve gained in more than a decade as a published author, and in my work with hundreds of writers, to every one of our calls. But what matters most here is you. Because no one knows what you and your creativity need more than you do. I will support you every step of the way, but I can’t do the work for you.

Can you help me find an agent or publisher?

No. This isn’t that kind of deal. I can support you with the submissions process, review your submissions package (most examples include a letter, synopsis – up to two pages – and opening chapters, up to 5000 words), and help you determine the best route to publication for you. I can also point you in the right direction for a whole host of fantastic resources on the subject.
